Star Room Information

In the Star Room this fortnight we are focussing on light and dark. We will be exploring the sensory den and using torches to make different shapes on the walls. We will be exploring the sensory feely bags, seeing what we can feel in the bag without looking, and looking at the Gruffalo Storysack and the houses the characters live in - could they be light or dark?

Moon Room Information

In the Moon Room this fortnight we are focussing on bugs and insects. We will be making marks and pictures freely on paper. We will be dancing to Halloween music, seeing if we can move differently to the different tempos in the music we hear. We will be exploring a pumpkin, scooping out the insides and exploring what it smells, looks and feels like.

Sun Room Information

The focus for the next two weeks in the Sun Room is ethnicity. We will be exploring the dressing-up clothes and seeing if we can dress independently and ask for help when we need it. We will be exploring the different spices by smelling them and maybe even being brave enough to taste them. We will also be practising our drawing and cutting skills whilst making friendship lamps, each one decorated by the children.

Nursery Christmas Party

We will be holding the party at Adderbury Parish Institute again this year, as it worked so well for us last year. Lewis will be joining us again for the parties in the Moon and Sun rooms, while the Star Room will have sensory trays to explore.

Timings for each party:

• Star Room: 9:30-11:00 am
• Moon Room: 3:30-4:45 pm
• Sun Room: 5:00-6:30 pm

Invitations for the party will be sent out closer to the time. We hope lots of you can join us to celebrate.

Nursery Information

• Please return any nursery spare clothes that have been sent home. We have been sending them home with children and not getting them back.
• If you have any unused long-sleeved tops at home that you are getting rid of, please consider donating them. We are short of tops for our nursery spare boxes and could use sizes for children aged 18 months to 4 years.
• Please make sure there is always at least one spare change of clothes in your child's nursery bag, as children do get quite messy at nursery.

Dates to Remember

• Christmas closure: Friday 18 December at 4:00 pm to Tuesday 5 January. The nursery will be closed on Monday 4 January for staff training.
• 30 October: Halloween party at nursery; fancy dress is encouraged.
• 6 December: Children's Christmas party.

Star Room Information

In the Star Room this fortnight we are focussing on shapes and colours. The children will be participating in many craft activities that involve mixing colours and using shapes to make pictures. The children will be exploring shape sorters and playing with shapes; can they put them in the right places? Finally, they will be exploring the colour-sorting box and singing songs about colours and the rainbow.

Moon Room Information

In the Moon Room this fortnight we are focussing on autumn and looking at the way the world is changing around us. The children will be going on an autumn walk around the school grounds, playing in all the fallen leaves, looking for squirrels, and collecting sticks and leaves for the sensory tray. The children will be learning autumn number songs and learning how to count to 5, and the older children to 10 and beyond. The last focussed activity they will be doing is learning to do things independently: can the children put on their own clothing to go outside, use cutlery at the lunch table and help cut their fruit at snack time?

Please can we ask parents to try and leave any toys that are not comforters in the car in the morning? We do not want to be responsible for these toys getting lost while at nursery, and we have also noticed that this is upsetting some of our children when the toys are put away in their nursery bags.

We are now trialling a new method for putting children to sleep at nursery. Depending on the day, the Moon Room can have up to 30 children to put to sleep and, as you can imagine, this can take quite a lot of time. From now on, any child who has been patted by an adult for 10 minutes and is not asleep will be got up and sent to play in the craft room with any children who are awake. If there are any problems with this, please speak to a member of staff.

Sun Room Information

The focus for the next two weeks in the Sun Room is animals and their habitats. The children will be taking part in animal yoga, using different styles of music to create different animal shapes when the music stops. They will be looking at a floor map of countries around the world and where the different animals live. Lastly, they will be looking at animal habitats in the OLE garden, seeing if they can talk about what animals might need in their homes that we do not need or use.
